2022 PINAY ART SHOW
✨ “Even though Filipinos are the second largest diasporic population in the US, we don’t often see our people represented or celebrated in the media, in leadership, and non-medical fields. To find majority Filipino spaces, you have to live in a majority Filipino area or engage in activities/fields popular in Filipino culture like dance or nursing or church groups. On top of that, finding Pinays represented in non-stereotypical spaces is like finding a needle in a haystack. Casielle and Andrea, two Pinays living in Park Slope, teamed up to showcase Pinay talent. As visual artists, they noted a lack of Filipinas represented in the artist community and endeavored to change that. They hope that this event plants seeds for more bold community art events where Pinays are front and center.” ✨ -PINAY ART SHOW 2022
I was very honored and enthusiastic to be a part of this movement and show 🇵🇭✨❤️! Along with 5 other multi-talented and multi-faceted, phenomenal PINAY artists, this was my first show I was being featured in! What a beautiful gift!
PINAY JOY ✨ SIX POWERFUL, BEAUTIFUL, RESILIENT, PHENOMENAL queens, creatives, artists, activists, and PROUD PINAY WOMEN came together on an October night for THE PINAY ART SHOW, and MAGIC ✨ was BIRTHED.
I can not begin to express the gift it was to me for not only being a part of this show but to have this opportunity to share a space (SHOUT OUT TO CREATOR CASA ! Kris -owner and curator of the space-is such a beautiful soul! Thank you for HOLDING SPACE FOR US! And for hosting us in such a lovely space with wonderful, flowing, bright energy!) with these SIX gorgeous souls. My heart is EXPLODING with love right now as I write this and I still feel high from the overwhelming and emotional support and love we all received that night.
Thank you to my good friend, Joey Guerra, for capturing us in our element through photography. I will always remember this significant and powerful night. What started as a day of sleep deprivation, dreary continuous rain, followed with a tumultuous 12 hour work day, ended with joy, gratitude, tears of joy, and good wine.
I was running in a torrential downpour, tears streaming down my face because my work got wet, I could not find the venue, my exhibit space wasn’t set up and it was a half an hour before the show. Panic flooded my body, as I desperately tried to find the entrance to the venue. Warehouses towered over me, it was dark, wet, cold, and no one was on the street to ask for directions. I managed to find a door to what I thought was the location, and a young lady ended up opening the door just as I was about to turn around and go elsewhere, to reveal it was a back entrance into the building that housed the venue. I quickly stumbled in with my artworks as she held the door open for me. I graciously and breathlessly thanked her, as I made my way up the steps.
Again. I was lost.
My iPhone began to ring and it was my friend Cassandra, checkin in on me. Bawling, at this point, I asked if she can help me bring my things to the right location. That’s when my fellow artist and good friend along with her partner, Cassandra and Joey, swooped on in to the rescue and helped me get my things situated and hugged and comforted me…I was nervous about that night, running late, and wasn’t even set up for the show, but the other ladies, Christie, Christiana, Andrea, and Casielle came through and offered their love, aide, and support, along with encouragement and empowerment. I had a long day that started at 3:00am and I was rain soaked and exhausted. They diffused my anxiety with their warmth, kindness, and love. After set up, I felt a wave of relief wash over me but most importantly, I felt supported and loved.
I feel like I met my new squad of PINAY sisters and met my creative soul sisters. Andrea ‘s powerful speech along with hearing the hearts of Casielle, Christie, Christiana, and Cassandra was an emotional and HEALING experience. The turn out was astounding! It is truly a TREASURE to be able to join together with these women and this is just the beginning of a beautiful seed we planted together last night. I can’t wait to cultivate, nurture, water, and nourish our growth together going forward. Watch us glow and grow! Yield ABUNDANCE AND PROSPERITY.
✨🥹❤️ I AM TRULY GRATEFUL for all who shared their time and energy with us and came through, shared our event, and contributed to this show!
FOREVER GRATEFUL and overflowing with JOY -Alitha ❤️
